On the first day of your Marangu Route trek, a guide and mountain support crew will brief you at your hotel before transferring you to Kilimanjaro National Park’s Marangu Gate (1,860 m/6,102 f). After completing registration formalities and acquiring permits, your journey begins with a trek through lush rainforest, where tropical showers are common, so carrying raincoats and spare clothes is essential. The destination for the day is Mandara Hut (2,720 m/8,922 f), where the support crew will prepare your accommodations and lunch. Nights on this route are spent in comfortable huts, ideal for those who prefer them over tents. As this is your first day at higher altitude, it’s crucial to drink plenty of water, monitor for altitude sickness, and consult your guide if needed.

Your group will begin the summit trek at night from Kibo Hut (4,720 m / 15,482 f), heading toward Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,336 f). While the trail itself is moderately challenging, the high altitude makes every step more demanding. Each pair of climbers will be assigned a personal guide to closely monitor their stamina and mental state throughout the ascent. After reaching Uhuru Peak, you may choose to visit the nearest glacier before descending back to Kibo Hut for a two-hour rest. The journey then continues with a descent to Horombo Hut (3,720 m / 12,202 f).
➔Important Note:
The descent accounts for 90% of climbing accidents, including injuries to arms, legs, and toenails. Pay special attention to your footing to ensure a safe journey.
