Tarangire is well known for its large elephant herds, is also host to a multitude of other creatures. From the open roof of our safari jeep, we'll experience the seasonal swamps, savanna and life-giving Tarangire River endeavouring to encounter a multitude of creatures from zebra to wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, and giraffe, to name but a few. It is possible we will glimpse lions stalking prey or leopards relaxing in the trees above. The Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania covering an astounding 15,000km squared with diverse landscapes and habitats such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah and mountains. Here the great migration of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope takes place and depending on the season, we may have the opportunity to witness thousands of animals on their search for food and water. After an extensive game drive, we'll drive to the Seronera Valley for an evening meal and overnight stay at Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp. Newly renovated, with tents raised on wooden daises, a beautiful buffet dining tent, musicians and a fire on the plain.

The Serengeti, the habitat of an abundance of wildlife such as impala, buffalo, crocodile, and hippo, is more well-known for its great migrating herds of zebra, antelope, and wildebeest. The animals’ trek is determined by the rainfall and varies from year to year. In November and December, the animals move from the northern region, dominated by woodlands and hills, to the grassy plains of the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June, they return to the north. Apart from the migrating herds, we may have the opportunity to see the resident predators, leopards, cheetahs, and lions, fulfilling their role in the circle of life. After an unforgettable day, we will return to the Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp for relaxation, dinner and our overnight stay will be on the endless plain..

We may have the opportunity to spot the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – before embarking on our journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will pass by a Maasai village where you will get a unique opportunity to learn about some of the customary practices such as fire-making and beadwork. You may also get the chance to meet and speak to villagers in their homes and your guide will happily interpret if needed. This activity takes approximately 1 hour and after that, you will drive straight to the rim of the crater for the walking safari at sunset with an armed ranger. During the walking safari, you will explore extinct volcanoes, landscapes and wildlife in these beautiful highlands. The views and scenery are truly breathtaking and after about 2-2.5 hours, you will drive straight to your accommodation for dinner and overnight..

Accommodation: Rhino Lodge - lodge located outside Ngorongoro Crater
Meals & Drinks:  All meals included. All drinks (Except for spirits/liquor).

  • Day 6 - Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu

Early risers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the rising sun over the crater’s edge and, after a hearty breakfast, we rumble down the adventurous track into the crater. This UNESCO world heritage site, one of the seven wonders of Africa, formed about three million years ago, is 610 m deep and covers roughly 260 square kilometres. Due to its dense animal population of approximately 25,000 ungulates, the crater offers the best game viewing of all the parks in Tanzania. In a matter of minutes we will be able to see wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elephant, and some of the more than 500 bird species here inhabiting. With a little bit of luck we may catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino through the grass. After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch we leave the crater in the afternoon to travel back to Karatu, again staying at one of our, hand picked for quality, mid range partner lodges.

This relatively small but diverse park, 120km west of Arusha, is so named for the shallow salt lake which covers a good seventy percent of the parks surface area. Flooding and drying with the seasons the soda lake is home to thousands of flamingo as well as over 500 other bird species. On our exploration of the park we will see monkey, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and, with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. The park is known for its diverse landscapes; not only open grassy plains, but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab dotted cliffs. After another memorable game drive we, with our adventure at an end, return to Arusha in the late afternoon, replete with images of the African wilds to last a lifetime..

Safari experience Shiri Adventures gave us an amazing experience. We had so much fun the last 5 days and learned a lot about the beautiful animals out there and also the vegetation. Kili was by far the best guide we could have got, he took us to the best places, and always knew where to find the animals and how to see them as close as possible. We always felt safe when driving with him and he surely was more than just a guide for us, for these 5 days he was like friend for us. And also Freddy’s accompany was a blessing for us, he is for sure the best stomach engeneer we could have get. His food was always amazing and tasted so good. The accommodations were also really good, especially the nature heaven campsite, we always felt safe and comfortable there! Those were unforgettable memories we made seeing lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, buffaloes, Gnus, hippos, impalas, waterbucks and bushbucks, Leopard, flamingos, hyenas, jackals, a serval cat, ostriches,… In the Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara, Ngorogoro Crater and Highlands.

The best When researching safari options for ourselves in Nov 2021 we came across a number of providers and sent numerous enquiries. Some never bothered to reply, some were very blunt and unhelpful and some were simply so slow to respond. Linus from Shiri Adventures however was prompt with his reply and was reachable by email and watsap, pretty much whenever we required, considering the time difference. A safari has been on our list of trips to do for some years and we had done our research before exploring options, however it was great to hear from Linus regarding current situations in Tanzania, for example the changing weather patterns affecting the animal movements, so we could ensure our trip would not only be value for money but also give us the best chance of seeing Tanzania at its best. After a good few weeks of emails back and forth we settled on an itinerary. Linus’s patience during this was brilliant. Obviously with the changing COVID protocols in the UK and around the world we were very nervous about proceeding with this type of trip as the amount of money being spent is of course a large sum and we needed reassurances that should situations change we would be able to re-book at a minimum, if not receive a full refund. Added to that, the fact of transferring money to an unknown account abroad always makes you nervous, however various payment options were provided to us, and Linus put a huge amount of trust in us as customers, and I think this is the overriding element I will take from dealing with Linus and Shiri Adventures, the trust aspect that we would not be let down by them or taken advantage of, even in these terrible times for the world and tourism especially. Special requests were noted, for instance my intention to propose during the trip, and when the initial activity had to be changed due to unsuitable conditions outside of anyones control, alternative arrangements were provided a few days later. Our driver during the trip had excellent knowledge and spoke brilliant English, and you could feel he had a genuine passion for what he was doing. I would have no second thoughts about recommending Shiri Adventures or indeed using them again. Prompt, friendly, trustworthy and value for money, I think the team are a total testament to Tanzania and it’s amazing wildlife and landscapes, and they operate exactly how a tourism company should. Thanks for an amazing trip during incredibly tough times for tourism, and we both wish you the very best for 2022 and the future!

A local tour operator that helped us make an unforgettable trip Me and a friend did a 6-day deluxe Tanzania safari (Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Manyara). The communication with Linus went effortlessly and he was always quick to respond. We also added a visit to the Masaai tribe (which lasted an hour or so). This was a nice add-on to learn about the the indigenious way of living. We spent the 1st night at a hotel in Arusha and the other days in lodges and tented camp. Everything was so well organized and wherever we went we were always welcomed with a smile. Tanzanian people in overall are really kind. Our safari trip was amazing and definitely a once in a lifetime experience. We have seen the migration crossing which was such a big highlight of my trip. Because of our guide’s (Marick) experience and patience we were able to see so many wild creatures. Just like that we could already check off the big 5 on our 2nd day, with the black rhino as the last one, which was at the end of the day on our way to camp! We have witnessed some beautiful sunrises, one just from a hill not so far from our camp. The food, OMG, was so delicious. We did a bush lunch in the Serengeti which was amazing. And we have received a Shiri adventures T-shirt which is really cool! Props to Shiri adventures for organizing our unforgettable safari trip!

Safari with Shiri at its best! This company is an excellent choice for Safari. I chose the 7-day Northern park circuit (Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Serengenti, Lake Manyara) from Arusha and loved every minute of it. Everything was well organized, easy to handle and questions answered by Linus instantly. Our guide Laurent was the best! Very experienced, so much fun and he did an awesome job on spotting the animals. Also a walking Safari in Ngorongoro was included, which was amazing. Picnic lunches were super yummy and lodges/tented camps in the evening friendly & comfortable. So I want to thank Linus, the Shiri team and Laurent for this wonderful holiday! Great customer service, great guide, awesome experience, which I will never forget. Highly recommend Shiri Adventures!

Gorilla and Tanzania safari We did a trip to Rwanda/Uganda and Tanzania at the beginning of May. We had a very positive experience with Shiri Adventures. Linus spent a lot of time helping us to prepare the trip and was always very responsive to questions, queries and requests. We experienced a few hiccup with our flights, and Linus was very accommodative to ensure our itinerary would not be heavily modified, even at his own expense. On one occasion, we realised staying one more night in Uganda would be detrimental to us going back on time to Kigali, and Linus arranged for us to change the hotel booking at the last minute. On another occasion, the camp we had booked wanted to cancel our booking at the last minute as they were refurbishing the common area. Linus pushed for us to still be hosted there and we ended up being the sole guests in the largest tent with a very exclusive VIP experience. Shiri Adventures had a network of very nice and professional guides. In Rwanda, we had a great time with Gavis, who was always looking after us, and helped us discover some local street food. In Tanzania, we went to the Ngorongoro crater and Serengeti, and had one of the most experienced guides, Laurent, who has exceptional eyes and is able to spot animals from very far away. We saw all the big 5, plenty of cats, and Laurent spotted the right spots to see the wildebeest migration. All in all, a fantastic experience, worth every penny. Some advice for your trip: – We went at the beginning of May which is theoretically the rainy season (lasting from beginning to the end of May). We were very lucky as we did not have a single day of rain and a much more exclusive experience given the very few tourists (at Serena Manyara, there were so few guests that they cancelled the buffet and offered us a tasting menu instead). We do recommend to try your luck at that time. – Visiting a Masai village is worth it despite the USD 50 per car fee, although we would recommend just choosing a random one on the way to Serengeti. There is a lovely one on the road to Serengeti towards the end of the Ngorongoro conservation area, on a very green valley between 2 mountains when the road bends. Visiting a Masai village is not an obligation given, if you stay in a tented camp (strongly recommended for at least 2 nights), you can interact with the Masai working there for your protection. – Don’t hesitate to bargain hard at roadside craft markets as they tend to price their items very high (the same items were 3x more expensive there than at the Arusha airport market).

The accomodations on the trip were amazing. Our tour guide Laurent was just the best!! He was fun to be with and told us a lot about all of the animals we saw as well as Tanzanian life. Amazing and unforgettable 3 days safari (Serengeti & Ngorongoro) I have organised my trip to Tanzania including the safari in 48 hours and I think without Shiri Adventure it wouldn’t have been as perfect as it has been! Luis has responded immediately to my request for quotation for our 3 days safari (Serengeti & Ngorongoro). His easy way of getting in contact via whatssap and his almost 24hr availability made everything so easy and pleasant! he was also super flexible and understandable when my payment didn’t go through becasue of internet connectivity. In any case the safari was brilliant! Kili, our guide was a real expert of nature and animals and althoguh 3 days could be too short, he managed to let us see all the big 5 except for the leopard multiple times! We are so happy of having chisen Shiri and we would recommend it to everyone. From the car (some companies were stuck in the mud because they didn’t provide real 4X4 cars) to the accomodation (we opted for lodges and Luis chose the Baobab lodges for us – which was amazing in terms of accodation but also food) to the picnic choises (proper food also for kunch and not foodboxes as other were eating) and they also provided us with binoculars as we didn’t have enough time to buy them. Shiri Adventures and Baobab are the right company also in terms of sustainability – ZERO PLASTIC and ZERO WASTE! Thank Luis, I will be always thnakful for letting us having such an amazing experience! Note for future clients: if you plan to do 3 days of safari I strongly recommend to buy a flight on the 4th day early morning so you can maximise the 3rd day of safari 🙂
