Rongai is the only route starting on the northern slope of Kilimanjaro. Though this part of the Mountain is rarely visited by hikers, it is no less interesting than the popular southern and western slopes. We recommend Rongai to all those who like reclusive hiking experiences. Getting to the trailhead – Nalemuru Gate – usually takes 3-4 hours from Moshi town.

Day by Day
Arrival (See Getting There for more details)
➔ You'll be collected from the airport. ➔ Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged for an extra cost.
Day 1 - Arrival in Moshi
Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you will meet with our Shiri Adventures representative, and transfer to the hotel under the rate. The hotel will provide all the essentials for a comfortable stay: cozy rooms, hot water, polite staff, a swimming pool, and Internet access. In the evening there will be a briefing with your Kilimanjaro guides, who will also make sure you are ready to begin the climb..
➔ Main Destination: Moshi (City) ➔ Accommodation: Panama Garden Resort ➔ Meals & Drinks: Meals at your own expense. Drinks not included.
Day 2 - Trekking from Nalemuru Gate to Simba Camp
You will meet your mountain guides and crew in the morning before setting out for Kilimanjaro
National Park's northern entrance: Nalemuru Gate (2,020 m). Here, the head guide will acquire
the necessary permits and finalize search and rescue registration.
This day’s trek through the coniferous forest of Kilimanjaro’s northern slope to Simba Camp is
moderate, taking you up to 2,625 m. Remember not to hurry and maintain a comfortable pace.
By the time you reach the camp, our professional mountain crew will have pitched your tents
and started dinner preparations.
Day 3 - Trekking from Simba Camp to Second Cave Campt
Early in the morning after breakfast, the group will depart from Simba Camp to start trekking
towards your second high-altitude camp: Second Cave Camp (3,480 m). This route is rather easy
and will only take around 3 hours, so when you reach the camp you will still have ample time to
rest and explore the surrounding area. After lunch, you will have a couple of hours to rest,
followed by an acclimatization hike in the direction of Kikilelwa Camp (3,630 m) on a stretch of
the Rongai Route at a short distance with a 100-meter gain in altitude, after which you will hike
back down to Second Cave Camp.
Day 4 - Trekking from Second cave Camp to Kikelelwa Camp
After breakfast, you will begin trekking to Kikelelwa Camp (3,630 m), where you can see Kibo
Volcano at its finest (barring cloudy weather). This will be a relief day, so after lunch, you will
have time to sleep before the next trekking towards Mawenzi Tarn Camp. In the evening after
dinner, the guide will check the health conditions of each person in the group and give the
necessary instructions for tomorrow's trekking.
Day 5 - Trekking from Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
Early wakeup, breakfast and the start of trekking to Mawenzi Tarn Camp, which is situated at
the foot of Mawenzi Volcano, Kilimanjaro's second summit. When you reach the camp, you will
have lunch and a two-hour rest, after which there will be an acclimatization hike towards
Mawenzi Volcano with a 200-meter gain in altitude, followed by a hike back down to Mawenzi
Tarn Camp, where you will have dinner in the evening.
Day 6 - Trekking from Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Camp
This day will be spent trekking toward Kibo Summit Camp (4,700 m). The landscape will change
significantly to give way to a rocky semi-desert. The actual trekking is not very difficult; just remember to stick with an appropriate pace to keep up your strength for the trekking to
Kilimanjaro's summit. When you reach the camp, we recommend you sleep well, avoid strenuous
activity, and drink as much as you can, because that very night you will be ascending Uhuru Peak
(5,895 m).
Day 7 - Uhuru Peak Summit Attempt and Descent to Horombo Hut
The team will depart School Hut Camp with its elevation of 4,715 m at night. The trek up to Uhuru
Peak’s 5,895 m puts more of a strain on your cardiovascular system than your muscles as the high
altitude takes its toll on your body despite the moderate gradient of the climb. One guide will be
assigned to every two climbers, constantly evaluating their fitness throughout this part of the
climb. A walk on the nearest glacier can be undertaken upon reaching the summit. The descent to
3,720 m at Horombo Camp will include a 2-hour rest stop at Kibo Camp. It is highly advisable to
keep in mind that 9 out of 10 climbing accidents happen on the way down, so watch your step!
Day 8 - Final Descent to Marangu Gate
The final descent to Marangu Gate’s 1,860 m starts after breakfast. The stop at the gate
presents a good opportunity for the last exchange of impressions and memories of the expedition
with the whole of your support crew. The climbers will receive their certificates of achievement
at our offices before being driven back to their hotel.
Day 9 - Departure
Departure
Rest in the hotel and transfer to the airport or onwards travel.

7 Day Safari - Trip of a Lifetime
I did a 7 day safari with Shiri Adventures and it was incredible. Full disclosure, I did get mine severely discounted as we worked together on content creation/promotion, but I can honestly say I would have absolutely paid full price to do it.Our guide Laurent was amazing. Linus, the Managing Director, is a godsend and helped us with some issues that popped up right before we left as well as answering every little question we had along the way. This trip was the time of our lives (me and my husband went for our honeymoon). I couldn't recommend it enough, and I found Shiri to be very reasonable in cost compared to many other safaris at this level. And we saw the big 5! I'm telling you, our guide had supervision. 10/10 would recommend Shiri Adventures.

7 Day Safari Experience
Shiri Adventures made the whole safari a breeze! We got to see so many animals and different national parks over our 7 day safari. And with the help of our guide we were able to spot and see the all of the big 5 animals (lions, elephants, leopards, water buffalo & rhinos)! We got a discounted experience via my wife, but I would pay full price any day. It was amazing!

BEST Guide Company In Tanzania
Linus and his crew were all over the tiny details that made each excursion we want on amazing. Did the 3-day safari, Materuni Falls & coffee tour, and visited the Chemka hot springs. Everything was well planned out and communication from Linus was impeccable. Highly recommend this company and will use them again if I ever find myself back in Eastern Africa!

My Kilimanjaro hike
I had a wonderful experience with the team at Shiri, Linus provided such a wonderful team that played a very huge role in helping us summit Uhuru peak. The team was organised and professional and made the 6 day hike a very memorable one for me and for the friends I made on the hike.

6 day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro
Absolutely wonderful from start to finish! My friends and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro via the Marangu route with Shiri Adventures, and Linus and his staff delivered an amazing experience. There were 4 of us in our group and we all had limited hiking experience, but we all made it to the summit with the help of our amazing guides Yaki and Bryson, along with the porters. After we finished, they had beers, champagne and a bus waiting for us at the gate. I have traveled quit a bit and I can say I’ve never had a better experience anywhere. If I ever go back to Tanzania I will hire Linus and Shiri Adventures to handle it. I wish I could do more than write a review. I highly highly highly recommend using Linus and Shiri Adventures for your Kilimanjaro trek or safari. Thanks again to Linus, Yaki, Bryson and everyone else, you made our trip happen and delivered a once in a lifetime experience!!

Highly recommend using Shiri Adventures.
We went on a three-day safari with Shiri as well as a day trip to Materuni Falls and Coffee Plantation and Chemka Hot Springs. I can't say enough good things about how helpful Linus and his staff were before, during, and after our trip. Everyone was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and made sure we were enjoying our trip. Our accommodations and food exceeded expectations. If you're planning a trip to Tanzania, I would highly recommend booking your adventures with Shiri.

Best Safari!
Me and my wife spend our honeymoon on safari (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Manyara) with Shiri Adventures and I can say that it was the best experience! We didn't have a single complaint. From communication with mr. Linus, who responded quickly to all our questions and concerns (via WhatsApp or email), to the entire organization of Safari, transfers to airport, luxury lodges in national parks… Also, on our safari jeep they put our wedding photo - nice personal touch :)Our guide (mr. Ibra) was an exceptional at finding animals that we could see from a distance of only a few meters! He taught us about animals, their behavior and the habitats they live in, about the natives Maasai (which we also visited), about land Africa and Tanzania... Really experienced guide! We would recommend Shiri Adventures 10/10. These guys are on another level! :)
