The Lemosho Route: Your Scenic Journey to Kilimanjaro’s Summit

The Lemosho Route is one of the most picturesque and less trafficked routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its gradual ascent, it offers trekkers the opportunity to acclimatize properly while enjoying diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts. This route typically takes 7 to 8 days, providing ample time for trekkers to adjust to the altitude and increasing summit success rates. With its stunning scenery, peaceful environment, and higher chances of reaching the summit, the Lemosho Route is a top choice for those seeking a rewarding Kilimanjaro experience

Expert Recommendation: On The Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route is highly recommended by experts, particularly for those seeking a balance of scenic beauty and optimal acclimatization. The 7-day itinerary is favored for its gradual ascent, beginning at 3,414 meters, allowing trekkers to adjust to the altitude effectively. This longer duration ensures shorter hiking distances during the initial days, promoting better acclimatization and improving summit success rates. The 6-day variation is best suited for experienced trekkers or those who have already acclimatized, as it provides less time for altitude adjustment. For most trekkers, especially beginners, the 7-day itinerary is the ideal choice for a safe and successful climb

Lemosho Route - Summit Success Rate

Our summit success rates are based on data from thousands of Kilimanjaro climbers. Below are the success rates for the Lemosho Route (Crater Rim and Uhuru Peak):

  • Lemosho 6 Days: Crater Rim 91.5% | Uhuru Peak 93.2%

  • Lemosho 7 Days: Crater Rim 93.5% | Uhuru Peak 95.9%

  • Lemosho 8 Days: Crater Rim 93.8% | Uhuru Peak 97.2%

The slightly lower success rate on the 6-day itinerary is mainly due to its higher starting altitude and rapid early ascent. Experienced climbers often choose the more demanding 6-day option and still summit successfully. For most climbers, especially first-timers, we recommend the 8-day Lemosho itinerary as it offers the best balance of acclimatization and summit success.

At Shiri Adventures, we’re proud to achieve such impressive success rates, thanks to several factors. First, we offer the best working conditions and competitive salaries for our mountain guides, porters, and support teams, ensuring we attract the most skilled professionals in the region. We also prioritize the well-being of our clients, going beyond standard care. Shiri Adventures provides more oxygen systems than other operators, which are used to support acclimatization and address altitude sickness symptoms. Our guides perform two thorough medical check-ups per day, ensuring your progress is on track.
